ABRAHAM DAWSON, KNOWN HERE, DIES IN R. ISLAND
Abraham Haywood Dawson, whose wife is the daughter of the late Mrs. Susan Allen of this city, died at 7:15 o'clock Tuesday night in his home, 528 20th Avenue, Rock Island. He had been in poor health for a number of years, but he was able to work until a year ago. His death shocked many citizens of Rock Island, where he was well-known.
Born in Muscatine, Ia., on March 25, 1868, Mr. Dawson as a youth came to Rock Island with his parent, and made that city his home since. He had worked for the city of Rock Island for 19 years. Mr. Dawson was quite active for years in Masonic and political work. He belonged to King Solomon Lodge No. 20, F. and A.M., and was a past patron of Eureka grand chapter, O.E.S. On Friday night he spoke at a political rally in the Harper House, and on last Tuesday he held a school of instruction for the Order of Eastern Star. he was a member of Wayman chapel, A.M.E. Church, in Rock Island.
On June 21, 1921, he married Ethel Allen of Galesburg, and the couple had made frequent visits here with relatives and friends. Surviving are the wife; a sister, Mrs. Eliza Walkup; four nieces and seven nephews, all of Rock Island, and an aunt, Mrs. Fannie Groom of Muscatine, Ia.
The body will lie in state at the Fletcher Funeral Home here tonight, and will be taken to Rock Island Thursday afternoon. Funeral rites will be held at 1:30 o'clock Friday afternoon from Wayman Chapel, A.M.E. Church, in charge of the Rev. M.A. Stewart of Moline.

Funeral services for Abraham H. Dawson, prominent colored resident of Rock Island, a man related here and with many friends in the city, will be held at 1:30 o'clock Friday afternoon from Wayman Chapel, A.M.E. Church, Rock Island. The Rev. M.A. Stewart of Moline will officiate. Burial will take place in East Linwood Cemetery about 3:30 o'clock Friday afternoon.

ABRAHAM H. DAWSON RITES HELD FRIDAY
Funeral services for Abraham H. Dawson, prominent colored resident of Rock Island who died Tuesday night, were attended by many friends at 1:30 o'clock Friday afternoon in Wayman Chapel, A.M.E. Church, at Rock Island. The Rev. W.A. Stewart of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Beloit, Wis., an old friend, conducted the services and was assisted by the Rev. J.J. Handy, pastor of Wayman Chapel. Mrs. Harriett Shoots Gordon sang "When I Have Done the Best I Can," "Precious Lord" and "In the Garden," accompanied by Mrs. Juanita Stewart. R.T. Williams sang a solo, "I Am Satisfied with Jesus." Soft music was played by Mrs. Marjorie Watkins. Ritualistic services were held in the church by the Order of Eastern Star.
King Solomon lodge No. 20, F. and A.M., accompanied the body to Galesburg, and last Masonic rites were conducted at the graveside in East Linwood Cemetery. William Taylor, past master, was in charge. Casketbearers were members of the Masonic order.
Attending the funeral from here were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Solomon, Miss Glaze Allen, Mrs. Susan Rodgers, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Allen and daughters, Nadine and Alma Lee, George Cannon, Mrs. Bertha Allen, William Skinner, Mrs. Ada Freese, Mrs. Juanita Brown, Henry Faulkner, Harry Beckley and Mrs. Nellie Lloyd.
