  John Washington Abbott of Glen Carbon died Tuesday at 10 p.m. at his residence. He was a former coal miner, but had recently been employed as a laborer for the highway department.
  He was born Nov. 10, 1875, in Glen Carbon and had attained the age of 72 years, nine months and 21 days. His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Washington Abbott. His marriage to Miss Elizabeth Weckman took place in 1911 in St. Charles, Mo.  She survives.
  Also surviving are a nephew, William Weckman who has made his home there since the age of two, three brothers, George Durham of Hutchinson, Kans., Edward Durham of this city, Rolla Durham of Glen Carbon and one sister, Nellie Nikola of Glen Carbon.
  He was a member of the United Mine workers of America Local 686.
  Friends may call at the Straube funeral home after 12 o'clock noon Thursday until 2 o'clock Friday when services will be held with the Rev. H.J. Bredehoeft officiating.
  Interment will be in the Glen Carbon cemetery.

  Pallbearers were Roger Nekola, Harold and Milton Weckman, Raymond, Rolla Jr., and Leonard Durham.
