Born Nov. 11, 1932, in Elwood, Illinois, to the late Francis Kurtz Hibner and Ruth Hazel Christensen, Mae married Kenneth M. Brockett on Dec. 21, 1952, in Joliet, Illinois. He preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 2007.
Mae enjoyed flower arranging, gardening and just being around family. She attended Joliet Township H.S. and was employed as a secretary prior to marriage. She was a wonderful woman whose kindness and gentle spirit will always be remembered.
Mae is survived by her children, Kenneth A. (Vicky) Brockett, Kathleen (the Rev. David) Cunsolo, Ronald (Linda) Brockett, Robert (Jeri) Brockett, Christopher (Cathy) Brockett, Lori (Steven) Thomas, James (Mary) Brockett, and Jennifer (Douglas) Maier. She was the proud grandmother of 18, and great-grandmother of many. She is also survived by sisters Millie Garland and Ida Canaday, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death with her husband; a grandson, Andrew Brockett Sr.; her parents; and siblings Edna Weltmeyer, Ruth Pehlke, Eldon Hibner, Francis Hibner, Dwight Hibner, and Sarah Wachs.
Funeral services for Mabel I. Brockett will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, in the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home chapel, 1201 West U.S. 6, at Deerpath Drive, Morris, with the Rev. David Cunsolo officiating. Interment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19.
