Erland August Olson, 57, life-long resident of Ludlow, succumbed last evening at the Kane Community Hospital at 10:20 pm., to an illness of nine months duration, becoming seriously ill in the last four months.
Mr. Olson was born March 12, 1911 in Ludlow to the late August and Clara (Peterson) Olson. He and the former Margaret Carlson of Ludlow were married in Sheffield on April 26, 1946. He had been employed as a stone mason and was a member of the Moriah Lutheran Church, BMPI Union of America, American Legion and Kane Elks.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the Infantry, holding the rank of Staff Sergeant, and participated in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes. Mr. Olson served with the 112th Infantry, 28th Division.
Survivors other than his wife Margaret at home are two sons; Gary Olson, serving with the Navy at Norfolk, VA, and Bruce Olson, serving with the Navy in the Philippines; one daughter at home, Claira Ann; brother Norman of Ludlow and six sisters, Mrs. Olger Wallin, Mrs. Lawrence Olson, Mrs. Eric Peterson, Mrs. Clyde Gilfert, Mrs. Eva Jones and Mrs Vern Swanson, all of Ludlow, and several nieces and nephews.
