-- ROCK HILL Mr. Michael Gordon Hughes, 54, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, in Rock Hill, S.C.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Hogg officiating.

Born in Baltimore, Md., Mr. Hughes was a member of First Baptist Church in Rock Hill. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Rush Hughes and his grandparents, Bertha and Kash Sandlin. He was an entrepreneur in different businesses, owner operator of Hughes and Sons Lube Express, a realtor and a timber industry broker. He worked at Celanese and was a member of the Elks Club. He attended Fairmont State University where he played rugby and founded the Webster County Mountain Men Rugby Club and was a member of the T.B.I. Fraternity.

Mike was a child of God and a strong believer in Christianity; he was a devoted husband, father, son and brother. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, hiking and being with his family and friends at "Camp Slickhead."

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Detwyler Hughes, formerly of Jacksonburg, W.Va.; sons, Michael Cole Hughes and Logan Kash Hughes of Rock Hill; mother, Elva Hughes Anderson (Henry) of Rock Hill; brother, Mark Hughes (Jane) of Catawba, S.C.; sister, Dianne H. Gregor (Rob) of Pittsburg, Pa.; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation Of America, P.O. Box 6062, Albert Lea, MN 56007-6662 or to First Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 481 Hood Center Dr., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
