Janice Alexander Byars, 76, of Rome, GA passed away Saturday, October 23, 2010 at her residence after a five year battle with Alzheimer's.

Mrs. Byars was born on December 30, 1933 in Floyd County the daughter of Noel H. Alexander and Emma Carter Alexander. She was a life long member of the church she truly loved – St. Peter's Episcopal Church. She was born into the church, christened, confirmed, married, saw her daughter, Becky, wed and buried her son, Bill, Jr., in 1991. St. Peter's was dear to her heart.

Mrs. Byars was a longtime member of the Rome Junior Service League and worked as a receptionist at both West Rome High School and Darlington School for a number of years.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, William M. (Bill) Byars; a daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Jones, and her husband, Lee; a granddaughter, Abigail (Abby) Jones; a sister, Sarah Kilgore; a brother, Noel H. Alexander; a niece, Cary Kilgore; a nephew, Ellis Kilgore (Claudia); and two great nieces, Catie Nelson (Matt) and Kelley Kilgore.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Roger Ard officiating. A private interment will be held in the Memory Garden of St. Peters' Church prior to the service.

The family will receive friends in Daniel Hall of St. Peter's Church following the memorial service.
