April 20, 1932 - Dec 18, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Rex Joseph Abbott, Sr., 80, died peacefully on Dec. 18, 2012. He was born April 20, 1932, in OKC, OK to Rex & Alice (Jackson) Abbott. Rex graduated from Capitol Hill High School, joined the Air Force and was stationed at Tinker Air Force Base. After his military service, his first career began at Downtown Chevrolet, after which he was employed at Tinker, where he retired after 35 years. Upon retirement, Rex moved to his land in Hughes County, where he raised cattle. A self-proclaimed cattle psychologist, Rex enjoyed his life as a rancher. He was a member of 4C's Cowboy Church in Stuart, Oklahoma. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda Lee Abbott, who passed on February 28, 2008; five sisters, Bertha Dockery, Vena Hawkins, Vera Parnell, Alice Meeks and Wilma Osegueda; he leaves behind his children, Karen Jaco, Alicia Knapp and Rex Abbott, Jr.; two sisters, Jean Hendon and Beatrice Melendez; seven grandchildren, James McMillan, Amber Vawter and husband Brandt, Pete Knapp, Rex Joseph Abbott, III, Miranda Bryant and husband Steven; four great-grandchildren, Colt Abbott, Tesslyn Abbott, Hunter McMillan and Courtney Vawter; and a host of beloved nephews and nieces. Viewing will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the family greeting friends 6-8 p.m. Services to celebrate his life will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec 21, 2012, at the South Colonial Chapel, with burial following at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
