Henry L. Hitt Sr., 82, of Summit, died April 12, 2002, at HospiceMinistries in Ridgeland.

Memorial services are 2 p.m. Saturday at J.J. White MemorialPresbyterian Church in McComb. The Rev. Amos Hood will officiate.His body was donated to medical science.

Mr. Hitt was born Jan. 3, 1920, in New River, Va. He was theson of Herbert Hitt and Annette Moorehead Hitt.

He was a retired journeyman electrician and a member of InternationalBrotherhood Electrical Workers No. 130. He served three yearsin the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was stationed aboardthe USS Lash. He was a member of J.J. White Presbyterian Church, GideonsInternational and Mission Pike County.

He moved to Summit in 1987. His wife said he came to Mississippito plant food to help hungry people. He was a large contributorof home-grown vegetables to MICA for a number of years.

Mr. Hitt was preceded in death by his parents and one brother,Herbert Hitt Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Chetta Hitt of Summit;one son and daughter-in-law, Henry Hitt Jr. and Deborah Hitt ofNew Orleans; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathryn Pillaultand April and Gerald Johnston, all of Summit; four grandsons,Mark Pillault of Oxford, B.J. Lawrence of Colorado, and Stephanand Christopher Lawrence, both of Summit; three granddaughters,Kerri Lawless of Slidell, La., Debbie Thayer of Lake Charles,La., and Angela Lawrence of Summit; and eight great-grandchildren.
