Donald Lee Armitage, 78, passed away Friday, December 14th at his home with his daughter Katie and her husband Mike Furr and his brother Bob by his side. He had been battling cancer for 5 years.
Don was born in Chicago, IL on November 30, 1934. He moved to the Yuba-Sutter area with his parents, brother and sister in 1948. He served the Sutter community as a California Highway Patrol officer for 30 of his 36 years on the force.
Don was well respected as a Highway Patrolman and as an officer and a gentleman. He did not make demands on anyone; rather in his soft-spoken convincing way, people knew he meant what he said and would generally accept the ticket or warning, etc.
Don loved to hunt, fish, and camp with his family and friends. Katie and Laurie, his two daughters, had many good times in the mountains with their Dad. Don and his brother Bob, hunted deer and elk in Colorado and Montana, and shot squirrels in Cedarville. After retiring, his favorite pastime was playing golf.
Don is survived by h is brother, Bob Armitage, two daughters, Katie Armitage Furr, and Laurie Halliday, four grandchildren, Michael Jr., Ashley, Ryan, and Sierra.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aldine and Lee Armitage, and a sister Margaret Armitage Fuller.
There will be a viewing on Friday, December 21st at Ullrey Memorial Chapel from 4-7pm. The service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22nd, at Ullrey's, followed by an escort to Sutter Cemetery for interment.
