DALTON, GA - Charles Millard Black, 65, passed away Thursday December 20, 2012.

A lifelong resident of the North Georgia area, he was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Dalton and a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he served during the Vietnam War. Charles was in law enforcement for 40 years.

He began his career with the Chattanooga Police Department, later he went to the Ringgold Police Department, then worked for the Dalton Police Department for 11 years and then ended his career with the Whitfield County Sheriff Department where he worked for 12 years.

He is preceded in death by his father, Millard Black.

He is survived by his mother, Emma Silvey Brown, of Rossville, GA; daughter, Jeaney Bonds (James), of Ringgold, GA; three step-daughters, Tina Nealey, of Tunnel Hill, GA, Cindy Johnson (Jeff), of Rocky Face, GA, and Desma Bowers (Tom), of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 24, 2012 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Walker, Sheriff Scott Chitwood and Larry Black officiating.

Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, December 23, 2012 from 1-9 p.m. and Monday until funeral time at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home Wallis-Stewart Chapel Ringgold, GA.
