COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Florence Anna Ainslie, 65, of Cooperstown and formerly of East Springfield, died Friday morning, March 12, 1999, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born June 28, 1933, in Cooperstown, a daughter of Ellis and Gladys (Ellis) Drake.


She first married Rowan Bresee who died May 22, 1959. She then married Alton C. Ainslie on Oct. 17, 1959, in Hartwick. Mr. Ainslie died Feb. 12, 1997.


Florence was raised in Springfield and graduated from the Springfield High School. Following her marriage to Alton, they moved to their home on Addie Van Alstyne Road where she lived for almost 40 years. For many years, she had been employed as a housekeeper for several area families and most recently she had been a personal nursing assistant, employed by Personal Nursing of Cooperstown.


She was a member of the Salt Springville United Methodist Church and recently had been a faithful attendee at the Fly Creek United Methodist Church. Florence loved to write poetry, often writing of local interests and people. Several of her poems have been published.


Florence is survived by her four daughters and three sons-in-law, Valerie and Bernard Mead and Joanne and Roger LaValley, all of Cherry Valley, Deborah and Gerald Noseworthy of Canajoharie and Linda Duncan of Edmeston; her sister, Ruth Ainslie of Norwich; eight grandchildren, Melinda Rockwell and her husband, Mahlon, of Cherry Valley, Michael Moore of Canajoharie, Gerald Noseworthy of Canajoharie, Jeremy Gage of Edmeston, Sarah Duncan or Canajoharie and Kyle and Benjamin Mead, both of Cherry Valley; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.


She was predeceased by one son, David A. Ainslie, who died on Dec. 22, 1989.


A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 15, 1999, at the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Eileen Kellogg Cornwell, pastor of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Springfield Center Cemetary.


Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m.-service time on Monday, March 15, when Florence's family will be in attendance.


In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.


Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
