He married Cassandra Weiser May 16, 1836, in Baltimore, Maryland, and fathered Jerome (b. 1838), Paul Edgar (b. 10/23/40), Calvin Weiser (b. 09/26/43, Arthur Emanuel. (b. 03/01/48), and Francis James (b. 01/30/50). In 1860, he was a lumber merchant living with family in York Borough, York County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 10" tall with gray hair and blue eyes. He was found dead in his bed from an apparent stroke of apoplexy

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Gettysburg September 2, 1861, understating his age by eleven years, mustered into federal service at York September 25 as a private with Co. F, 87th Pennsylvania Infantry, but discharged by surgeon's certificate April 2, 1862, by virtue of being "unfit for military duty." Despite that, he enlisted in Adams County as a substitute October 16, 1862, understating his age by twelve years, mustered into federal service at Gettysburg November 6 as a private with Co. K, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863.

Cassandra died November 19, 1861, and he married Margaret Stair Griffith, date unknown. In 1890, he lived in Gettysburg, Adams County, but apparently returned to York prior to his death.
