Born in 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, Nathan Carb was the kind of teacher that comes around once in a lifetime. He earned his Bachelor's degree in English from the College of William and Mary in 1954, and his Master's degree and Ph.D in English from the University of Pennsylvania in 1956 and 1959.

He joined the staff of Rowan University (then Glassboro State College) in 1959 and liked it so much that he stayed for fifty-two years, becoming Rowan's longest serving professor. From 1983-2003 he served as the chair of the English Department.

His retirement became official on June 30, 2011, and exactly one year later, he passed away at home. He had a passion for Shakespeare that was unrivaled by any other, and had a greater dedication to his students, colleagues, and school than most will ever know.
