Homer Francis Berry
June 6, 1910 - December 23, 2012

CUMBERLAND, MD-Homer Frank Berry, 102, of Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2012 after a brief stay at The Lions Center, Cumberland, Maryland. Born June 6, 1910, in Bloomington, he was the son of the late David S. and Rachel J. (Bucklew) Berry.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Frances (Cross) Berry, and his second wife, Sarah (Soulsby) Berry. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jeannine L. Windemuth, a son, Kenneth S. Berry; a brother, Samuel K. Berry and a sister, Pearl Wotring Miller and two grandchildren, Diane M. Patrick and Ryan Engle.
Mr. Berry retired as a senior supervisor of the preparation department at the Celanese. He was a member of the Senior Social Retirement Club and charter member of the Organization of Consumer Justice.
Homer was a former Legislative Chairman of AARP and a former president and member of the John Humbird Civic Improvement Association. He was also a co-founder of the Maryland Tax Association, a member of the Local Tax Association, and a former member of the task force on the energy crisis. Homer, during his lifetime, was actively involved in the 4-H organization.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol Jane Patrick, Kensington and Sharon L. Morley and husband John, Ridgeley; one son, William D. Berry and wife Cathy, Folsom, WVa. four grandchildren, Susan Windemuth; Louis P. Windemuth, Jr.; Charles Windemuth; and Daphne Snyder and husband Rodney, one great granddaughter, Emily L.Snyder and a son-in-law, Louis P. Windemuth, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (www.scarpellifuneralhomes.com) on Friday from 5 until 8 p.m.
It was Homer's request that a funeral service not be conducted. He will be privately buried in Hillcrest Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Homer's memory may do so by making contributions to the local 4-H clubs.
