He was born Sept. 6, 1923, in New Hartford, the son of Edward and Laurel (Darling) Maine.
On March 30, 1946, he married Janice McCredy; she survives.
He moved from Clayville to Springfield Center, where he attended Springfield Central School.
He was in the United States Army Air Corps for 31/2 years, serving in Iceland during World War II.
He and his wife, Janice, owned and operated McCredy's Grocery Store during the 1950s.
Clyde serviced and installed oil burners for Jones Fuel and Oil Co., and Mohawk Valley Oil over a period of 25 years.
He retired from the Otsego County Highway Department in 1987.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Springfield Center, for many years.
Besides his wife, Janice Maine of Springfield Center; he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rae and Daniel Overstreet, and a granddaughter, Mary Van Horn, all of Shelby, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Homer and Helen Maine of Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Erwin (Pete) and Lyle.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Rex Fullam officiating. Burial will be in the Springfield Center Cemetery, Springfield Center.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 27, 2001, at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.
Contributions in Mr. Maine's memory may be made to the Springfield Fire Department or the First Baptist Church, Springfield Center.
