Chico Enterprise-Record, Friday, October 26, 1990: Esther Rife. Services for Esther Helen E. Rife, 78, of Chico will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Van Hook Funeral Chapel. She died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 1990, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Rife was born Sept. 30, 1912, to Levi and Florence Bollinger in Traver. She was raised in Traver and in the Watsonville area, moving to Oregon in 1941. She settled in Chico in 1949, and July 31, 1950, she married Theodore Rife.

Mrs. Rife was past president of Chico Post No. 1555, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary; past 18th district president of VFW Auxiliary; and past president of Chico Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie Auxiliary NO. 218.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Ted of Chico; a son, Ted III of Chico; four daughters, Ada Brown of Corning, Helen Main of Oroville and Joyce Bradish and Sarah Childress, both of Chico; a brother, Lee Bollinger of Orland; a sister, Florence Shorey of Willows; and 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Diane Knight of Chico Unity Church will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Chico Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Chico Pot VFW Auxiliary Cancer Fund in care of the funeral chapel.
