Hannah Beard was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Dicks) Beard. She married 28 June 1821 in Wayne Co., IN, Peter A. Gronendyke. She was the mother of eleven children, seven of whose names are known: Catherine, Sarah A., James, Caroline, John R., Amos M., and Thomas B.

"The Star, Crawfordsville, IN, November 25, 1886
Died, at the residence of her son, John H. Gronendyke, six miles northwest of Crawfordsville, on Friday, Nov. 19, 1886, Mrs. Hannah Beard Gronendyke, aged 83 years.

Mrs. Gronendyke was born in Randolph county, North Carolina, and removed with her parents to eastern Indiana when a child, where she married the late Peter Gronendyke, and moved thence to this country, where she lived for more than fifty years; the greater part of which time she maintained a high rank as an exemplary member of the M. E. church; a christian mother and friend in the truest sense; and in her death leaves a host of relatives and old-time friends to mourn her demise. Mrs. Gronendyke leaves behind her a large family of relatives; two daughters and one son; (but had been the mother of eleven children) twenty-eight grandchildren; and thirty seven great-grandchildren.

Eld. Orr of the Christian church, officiated at the funeral on Sunday following the death, and the remains were interred at the Quick cemetery, in the immediate vicinity of the family residence."
