In memory of Sgt Elijah G Bailey (CSA), who died at the Petersburg Siege, along with other members of his unit, as a result of a mine explosion, by Feberal troops, during the Civil War. Many of these confederate soldiers were buried at the site, others, taken to hospitals, and some buried at Blandford Cemetery, were there is a Pvt Eli Bailey, that fought with the 18th SC Regt, but he is much younger than our Elijah, and died before the mine explosion.

Elijah married Mary W Bobo, on Aug 27th, 1844, in Cross Keys Union Co SC. She was the daughter of Solomon Jr & Elizabeth "Betsy" [White] Bobo, both of Union County.

He was the son of Harrison & Margaret [Duke] Bailey, also of Union Co.

Elijah's death was recorded in the Sexton Bible, their daughter Sarah Bailey married Wesley Townsend Sexton in Union Co SC.
