Mr. Bettegnies, 80, was born in Delaware County on February 23, 1918. Living in that area most of his life, he was a 1936 graduate of Royerton High School. He served in the U.S.Army in WWII.
He married Mary Bettegnies, who survives, 18 years ago.
He owned and operated the Bettegnies Elevator in Eaton, from which he retired in 1986 following 38 years in business.
He was a member of the Eaton Lodge No. 606, F&AM and a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis.
Other survivors include two sons, Richard (Karen) Bettegnies of Indianapolis and David (Barbara) Bettegnies of Swayzee. A daughter, Teresa Grant, of Florida survives, as well as, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Cynthia Russell, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were Monday, February 1, at the Pitman-Richman Funeral Home in Eaton with the Rev. Leon Pomeroy officiating.
