Kenneth Kinnamon
Kenneth Ellis Kinnamon departed this life for a better one on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at Mongomery General Hospital, Olney, Md. He is survived by a wife, Arlene E. Kinnamon, and a grandson, Darren Ellis Kinnamon, who was raised by the couple. She and Darren live in Rockville, Md. Survivors also include two sons, Jon Kinnamon of Denison, and Clark Kinnamon of Wilmington, N.C.; and a sister, Joyce McMorris of Denison. Survivors also include five other grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services will be officiated by the Rev. Carl E. Bilderback at the Cedarlawn Memorial Park. The deceased before his death requested that no flowers be sent or contributions made to any organization.
Kinnamon was born May 28, 1924 to Ellis and Mary Levona McGill Kinnamon in Denison and reared in the Denison-Sherman area. He finished Denison High School in 1951. He played baseball in high school, college and professionally (Kansas City Organization). He graduated from four civilian institutions of higher learning; Oklahoma State University (BS), Texas A&M University (DVM), the University of Rochester (MS) and the University of Tennessee (Ph.D.). He had appointments in three academic departments: Physiology, Preventive Medicine & Biometrics, and Radiology, at the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland. He was the Chief Operations Officer for 11 years at the University. He was listed in Who's Who in America, American Men & Women of Science and Men of Achievement. He authored more than 100 scientific and management publication and held patents for compounds used to treat tropical diseases.
Dr. Kinnamon served with the U.S. Army for 21 years and was a graduate of the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College. During the Vietnam War he was assigned to the U.S. Army Veterinary School where he taught troops how to defend against chemical, biological and radiological warfare agents. He retired with the rank of Colonel in 1980.
Kinnamon was a member of Redland Baptist Church, Rockville, Md. He believed that a principle by which to live is summed up in an old Spanish proverb: When we are born everyone laughs while you cry. Live your life in such a way that when you die everyone will cry while you laugh.
