Charles Bender, 81 of Jacksonville, FL died Thursday, November 15, 2012. Mr. Bender was a native of Flora, Illinois and a resident of Jacksonville for the past 60 years. He retired as a FAA Electronic Engineer in Hillard and was a member of the Starratt Road Christian Church. He was a member of the Morocco Temple of the Shrine and was a president of the National Shrine Band Association for 11 years. Mr. Bender was the founder of San Mateo Little League Ball Park. Survivors include his wife of 61 years Mary Bender, children, Allen (Daira) Bender, Steven Blaine Bender and Susan Ann Bender (Lennie) Gainey, one brother Gary Wayne Bender, 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Memorial Services will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in the Starratt Road Christian Church with Pastor Paul Waddelow officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to: Starratt Road Christian Church, 2311 Starratt Road, Jacksonville, FL 32226. Arrangements are under the care of Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery, Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2335 Sandridge Road, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043.
