Georgetown Man Instantly Killed By Fall

Georgetown, Dec. 14--Special--Carl Calvin Cagle, 56, of the Rose Hill section of Georgetown county, was instantly killed at 9 o'clock this morning while at work at the International Paper company plant here.

Coroner John A. Broach said that Mr. Cagle fell 30 feet from a beam onto a concrete floor in the paper mill. Death was instant.

Funeral services will be held from Rose Hill Baptist Church at 3:30 Sunday afternoon. Officiating will be the pastor, the Rev. K. W. R. Barefoot. Burial will be in the churchyard.

Mr. Cagle was born at Steeds, N. C., September 24, 1895, and was a son of Jayson Cagle and the late Dicy Louise McNeill Cagle. The family moved to georgetown when Mr. Cagle was a small boy.

He entered the logging business as a young man, was connected with the old Atlantic Coast Lumber corporation for a number of years and later was with the Marion Lumber Company.

Since 1941 he had been with the international Paper company and was employed as a rigger.

Mr. Cagle was a World War I veteran, having served overseas in the army.

He was a member of the Rose Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his widow, the former Miss Reather [Retha] Louise Fenters; four sons, Carl L. Cagle, Henry L. Cagle, Jimmy W. Cagle and Bobby Cagle, all of Georgetown; four daughters, Mrs. Paul Boisvert of East Hamilton, Mass., Mrs. Kelly Cribb, Miss Joyce Cagle and Miss Gloria Cagle of Georgetown; five grandchildren and two brothers, John M. Cagle of Andrews and William C. Cagle of near Hemingway.
