Alfred was a Coal Miner in WVa until 1958. The family moved to MD in 1959 and he worked as a car mechanic until arthritis took its toll and he had a heart attack. He was then a security guard for Woodward & Lothrop until he couldn't work anymore. He also suffered from Black Lung Disease and an enlarged heart.
