John Henry Helfrich was the black sheep of the family. He was the oldest child of Charles and Hannah Helfrich, born 6 months after his parents were married. He married Mabel Dreisbach on December 11th 1909. He had no interest in running the family farm in West Penn Township, he hated farming. Except for his sister Clara, his siblings were just that. He was a huckster and prefered to sell rather then grow fruits and vegetables. This was a great annoyance to his family, as he would travel to Philadelphia to buy his goods rather then get them from the family. John and Mabel lived in various places in the Mahoning Valley and the Lehighton area including a home and property which is now the Beaver Run Rod and Gun club in Mahoning Township. He died in Allentown Hospital of a fractured skull after a fall down cellar steps. While all his brothers and sisters are buried in the Stone Church cemetery in Snyders, Schuylkill County, he is buried here in Lehighton. His, along with is wife's, grave were unmarked, as a huckster he was only earning a meager living, until recently when my father, he was their grandson, bought them a small stone. They are buried in southern part of the cemetery near the back. I believe its the third road if you're coming off of Bridge Street and are heading north. Nearby is their daughter Bertha who married Morris Gombert. They are along the next road to the north on the other side and slightly to the front of the big tree. Also in the area, slightly behind and in the next section to the north, is their niece Lucretia Dreisbach who married Joseph Litchauer. She was the daughter of Mabel's brother Erwin and his wife Leatha Kocher(they are only a few yards away to the left with Erwin's stone covered by a large hosta). About a dozen rows in front of them is their daughter Pearl and her daughter Lucille Lechleitner, who was killed after being struck by a car. They are next to Pearls' first husband William Leichleitner who was killed in an automobile accident. Pearl and Williams' son "Billy", who was killed after being struck by a train in 1976, I believe is there as well but his grave is unmarked. John and Mabel's daughter Lois who married Maurice Litchauer is buried in the Lehighton section. Johns' cousin Charles Schock, he was the son of his mothers brother Benneville Schock, is also buried somewhere in this cemetery as well. Also nearby is Mabel's sister Nora Haupt and John's granddaghter Eleanor Moyer, who was the daughter of his son Irvin.
Both of John's parents were decedents of John Jacob Dreibelbis. Here's how:
His father Charles,
Helfrich's father was Henry Helfrich
Henry's mother was Elizabeth Wanner
Elizabeth's father was Jacob Wanner
Jacob's mother was Elizabeth Dreibelbis
Elizabeth's father was John Jacob Dreibelbis
His mother Hannah,
Schock's mother was Esther Merkel
