Mr. Hume lived all of his life on the old homestead in Moundville except for a few years when as a young man he worked on a farm near Poynette. In 1892 he bought the farm home from his father. May 24, 1893 he was married to Miss Lida May Sutcliffe of Waterloo, Iowa and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May 1943. Six children were born of this union. A daughter, Grace, (Mrs. Henry Christopherson) preceded her father in death in January 1933. Surviving Mr. Hume are his wife, Lida, two daughters, Mrs. William Fredrick and Mrs. Raymond Hopwood of Moundville, three sons, Lloyd of Milwaukee, Vern and Merl also of Moundville; one brother, George of Endeavor, thirteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a number of other near relatives. Mr. Hume was active in the church, school and civic affairs of his community. Although he led a busy life operating a farm and raising a family he always managed to find time for other activities. In 1891 Mr. Hume became a member of the Masonic Lodge at Poynette No. 173 F. and A.M. In 1896 he transferred to Portage to the Fort Winnebago Lodge No. 33 and in 1906 he was a Charter Member and helped organize Endeavor Lodge No. 292. He petitioned for and helped organize Rural Free Delivery route No. 2 at Endeavor and helped organize and was a director of the Endeavor State Bank. Mr. Hume was interested in school affairs and held such offices as school clerk of the town of Moundville. District No 2 and was a trustee of Endeavor Academy. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Moundville and consistently supported its various activities. He was trustee for many years and also the Sunday school superintendent. Will Hume was a fine husband, a good father and a dependable friend. He lived a good personal life as well as a splendid community life. He saw his community change from log houses, ox carts, kerosene lamps and muddy roads to our modern farms, electric lights, automobiles and good roads. He adapted himself to those changes and was always one of the first to accept them. He was always ready to help with those things which meant progress to his community and at the same time he did not hesitate to oppose those things which he felt did not contribute to its welfare. Funeral services were held at the home and also at the Moundville Church on March 9th. Rev L. L. Litchfield of Lodi and Rev. Floyd Olson officiated. The members of Endeavor Lodge No. 292 F. and A. M. conducted the Masonic services with H. B. Stowers of Portage giving the funeral oration. Mrs. Glendon Powell and Mrs. James Hollerup sang "The Christian's Good Night" at the services at the house and "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" and "The City Four Square" at the church.
