Henderson Paul "HP" Jennings, 98, of Jonesboro, AR., died Friday evening, Dec. 28, 2012, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He had lived in Jonesboro since 1987, marrying Jantra Gillihan-Holland on December 27th of that same year.

He moved here from Floyd, Virginia, where he was an agriculture teacher for 44 years before retiring in 1981. He was also a member of the Floyd, VA United Methodist Church where he served as church secretary for forty plus years.

After moving to Jonesboro he became a member of the Bono Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Ruritan Club both in Virginia and in Valley View where he set and held the world record for perfect attendance with 57 years. He will be remembered as an avid sports fan, card player and follower of his Alma matter, Virginia Tech. He never missed a Westside ballgame until the age of 97, when he had to give up his driver's licence. He was named the honorary coach of many Jonesboro All Star Baseball teams for several years. HP loved to cook, garden and raise all of his own vegetables, some of them award winners, until the age of 97.

HP is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jantra, of Jonesboro; one daughter, Shirley Nece; one granddaughter, Stacey Duke and her husband Robert and two great grandchildren, Damien and Devin Duke all of San Antonio, TX; one brother, Basil Jennings and wife Diane of Abengton, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins, two step daughters, Emilie Statler and Elwanda Norris and her husband Bill; two step grandsons, Randy Statler and wife Pam and Mike Fuqua and wife Cynthia; two step grand-daughters, Sandy Statler-Hunt and Kathy Hawkins and husband Michael and Eva Henriksen and husband Jamie; five step great grandsons, Jonathan, Justin, Jared and Jay Fuqua and Weston Statler; seven step great granddaughters, Lacey and Lindsey Hawkins, Lauren and Ashton Hunt, Devyn Statler and Sheena Tittle and husband Justin, and Kelby Norris; one step great –great grandson, Gavin Tittle, one great great-grand-daughter, Abbi Tittle, all of Jonesboro.

HP was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret, of 46 years; his parents, Sylvester McConnell Jennings and Mattie Jean Russell Jennings, three brothers and four sisters.

Arrangments were by: Gregg Langford-Bookout Funeral Home, Jonesboro, AR. The funeral was held at Bono Church of Christ. Burial was in Trinity Cemetery.
