On April 27, 1884 Gottlieb arrived in Galveston with Auguste and their son Erich. They made their home in Washington County, Texas before eventually moving to Falls County. They had 14 children.
After Auguste's death, Gottlieb married her widowed sister, Emma Woltmann Jahnz. They lived in Fayette County until Gottlieb's death in 1944.
