Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Hems Bros. Mortuary chapel in El Centro for Rogers Lewis Benoit, 88, of Holtville, who died Saturday in Valley Convalescent Hospital in El Centro.

The Rev. John Thompson of Christ Community Church of El Centro will officiate.

His remains will be cremated and deposited at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.

Mr. Benoit was born July 8, 1916, in Patterson, LA, and came to the Imperial Valley at age 14. He married Mabel Robertson.

Mr. Benoit worked as a burrajo, ranch hand, forest ranger, bracero, firefighter, on the railroads and last worked as an ice man at Shippers Ice in El Centro, family said.

He was preceded in death by all of his 17 siblings.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel Benoit of Brawley; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Tony Lomax of Holtville; grandchildren and spouses, Stacey and Daniel Noriega and Tony R. and Christina Lomax; great-grandchildren, Michael, Tony Jr., Summer Lomax, Ivy Noriega and Kyle Jackson; nieces, Jo Ellen Jackson, Karen Vogel, Jack Milner, Ida Murray and Deeana Roney; close friends, Walter Enz and his family and the Quan family; and numerous nieces and nephews.
