Feb 22, 1917 - Sep 9, 2007

Pernesa Katherine Akers, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 9, 2007 in Kansas City where she was living with her nephew Carl McGraw.
Graveside service will be held Friday, September 15, 2007 11:00 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery with Rev. B.F. Risinger, Jr. officiating.

Katherine was born on February 22, 1917 in Angus, Texas, daughter of Clarence Jeanette Pool and Andrew Stevenson Thompson.

After 28 years she retired from Southland Life Insurance in Dallas, Texas. She returned to Corsicana where she lived until November 2006. At that time, she moved to Kansas City to live with Carl and Marsha McGraw. During her retirement, she enjoyed renewing friendships, spending time with family, growing roses, taking art lessons, painting and shopping trips to Dallas with her nieces. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Corsicana.

Mrs. Akers was preceded in death by her husband, R.M. Akers; sisters Vera Mae Beeman, Colene Owen, Lacie (Dot) McGraw; brothers, Steve Thompson, Chester Thompson, Melvin Thompson, Wayland Thompson, Bill Thompson. She is survived by sister-in-laws Rosemary Thompson and Tahama Thompson, nieces, Dorothy Douglas, Bobbie Brown, Bettie Daniels, Wynelle Payne, Margaret Todd, Julie Roach and nephews Carl McGraw, Larry Thompson, Bruce Thompson, Jim Thompson, Paul Thompson, Tommy Thompson, Ronald Thompson, Leslie Thompson, Mark Thompson, Mike Thompson and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends knew her as Katherine but she was lovingly known by family as "Kattie" or "Aunt Kattie" by all her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and even her great-great nieces and great-great nephews. Through the years, many have fond memories how she loved to spoil them and they knew her door would always be open with acceptance, love and a smile.
