Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at South Park Cemetery for Merle D. Brown, 82, of Roswell (Chaves Co., NM) who passed away Nov. 27, 2000, at her home. Fr. Bob Williams of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church will conduct the service.

Merle was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Madill, Okla., to James and Pauline Dockins Wiley.

Her parents preceded her in death, as well as a brother, Jack Dockins and a sister, Nadine Higgins.

She married A. Donald Brown, a longtime Roswell attorney, Dec. 31, 1941, in Clovis, and after living in Corpus Christi, Texas, and Austin, Texas, moved to Roswell in 1949. He preceded her in death in Dec., 1993.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Jim L. Brown of Ruidoso; one granddaughter, Kimberly Dawn Parker; and two great-grandsons, Mathew Joseph Goebara and Samuel Albert Goebara of Spandulen Air Force Base, Germany.

Mrs. Brown moved to Roswell from Corpus Christi and lived here for 58 years. She was a homemaker, and a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church since 1949. She was a wife of a life member of the Roswell Elks Lodge No. 969, which also makes her a life member.

Pallbearers will be John Gibson, J. D. Patterson, Randy Russell, Carl Erdmann, Steve Brown, Steve Sowey, Mario Gibson and Shane Wood.

There will be a gathering of friends at Merle's home, 710 W. 9th St., after the graveside service.

Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
