The Hon. Charles R. Brice came to Memphis as a young man in 1889, studied with Ben H. Kelley and was admitted to the Bar in 1893 by the Hon. G. A. Brown. Was married to Miss Evelyn Prewitt, of Navarro County in 1896 and the same year was elected County Attorney of Hall County. Engaged in the banking business at Blooming Grove, Texas, from 1901 to 1903 at which time he moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico. In 1904 he was elected Mayor of Carlsbad; in 1909 was chosen to represent his district in the State Legislature, and helped to write the constitution of the new state. Although not a candidate, he was nominated by the Democratic Party for Justice of the Supreme Court of New Mexico in 1934 and was elected to that high office while on a trip around the world. Judge and Mrs. Brice, who make their home in Roswell, have two daughters, Gladys and Evelyn, both of whom were born in Memphis. Yesterday in Hall County, Texas by Inez Baker 1940
