Mr. Charlie Lightsey, 96, died Tuesday night (January 1, 2013) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after an extended illness.

He was a native of Mershon, but he lived most of his life in Waycross. He retired from CSX Railroad (formerly Atlantic Coast Line) as a conductor after 37 years of service. He was a member and deacon of First Christian Church, served as ambassador to Hasan Shrine Temple, and he was a member of Masonic Lodge F&AM #192, Waycross Exchange Club, Waycross Elks Lodge, RYDC Board of Directors, and United Transportation Union (UTU).

He is the son of the late N. L. and Mozelle Lightsey. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mavis Vadette Bowen Lightsey; and two sisters, Mrs. Charles H. Smith and Mrs. Alvin Tyre; three brothers, Ernest Lightsey, B. L. Lightsey, and Robert Lightsey.

Survivors include one daughter, Kay L. Callahan (husband Melton V.) of Blairsville; one son, Charlie Bill Lightsey (wife Sue) of Waycross; four grandchildren, Michael C. Callahan of Pittsburg, PA, Paul M. Callahan (wife Kim) of Waycross, Nathan M. Callahan of Blairsville, and Melissa Barnes (husband Barry) of Waycross; three great grandchildren, Reavis Barnes of Waycross, Joe Joe and Lauren Rimes of Waycross.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday (January 4, 2013) at Oakland Cemetery.

Music Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
