Roy L. Jones, 88 and a lifetime resident of Salida, Colorado died Monday, April 6, 1992 at the H & R Home Care Facility.

Roy was born January 10, 1904 to Sterling and Cora (Bartell) Jones at the old Bales Stagecoach Station, which now would be located on County Road 105. Roy married Edith L. Vaughn April 5, 1925 in Salida.

Roy built the log home located on Highway 50 East, where he and Edith lived until failing health forced them to be put into H & R Home Care Facility. Roy cut the logs and hauled them out of the mountains with a team of horses. He also did all the work on the home himself. He raised champion Herford cattle and always had many acres planted so he would have hay for his cattle and horses. Roy was an all around, hard working rancher all his life.

He is survived by his wife Edith of Salida, grandchildren, Maureen (Keen) Graham of Fort Worth, Texas, Roger M. Jones of Cambridge, Wisconsin, Rebecca Lee Huster of Kodiac, Alaska and Deborah Cervantes of Boulder, Colorado; a niece Bertha (Hershel) Jones of West Virginia. Also surviving are several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services are at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9 at Lewis & Glenn Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bob Morgan, and Dr. Wendell F. Hutchinson officiating. Dr. Hutchinson, a long time friend of Roy and Edith did a eulogy of Roys life honoring him for all his hard work helping other people while doing all of his own work, and what a great friend Roy was to so many people.

The organist was Georgiana Smith with soloist Jeanne Kostelic.

Pallbearers were Frank Underwood, Bob Graves, George Smith, Jimmy Moore, Wendell Hutchinson, and Russell Koenig. Honorary pallbearers were Ed Oliver, Noel Cooper, George Means, Roy Oliver, Art Hutchinson and Glen Vandaveer.

Viewing will be at the funeral home 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. today, and from 9:00 a.m. to noon the day of the funeral. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Salida next to his son, Roy E. Jones.

Memorial may be made to the Heart of the Rockies Medical Center building fund through Lewis and Glenn funeral home. Roy will be sadly missed by all his friends.
