Although Elizabeth Chardavoyne Peters tombstone reads she died at the age of 73 she probably was about 76 years of age at the time of her death. Elizabeth Chardavoyne was christened August 7, 1768 in the Reformed Dutch Church of NYC.
Elizabeth was the daughter of Elias Chardavoyne born abt. 1728 and Johanna Corcelius born abt. 1742 who were married in New York City on Feb 22, 1758. THE CHARDAVOYNES IN AMERICA by Corwin suggest they removed from NYC to NJ around 1776 "to avoid perils of the approaching Revolution". Elias' grandfather Elie Chardovine was a French Protestant who immigrated to NYC some time before 1692. Elizabeth Chardavoyne Peters can also claim being a descendant of "Wilhem Isacsen Van Vredenburgh who arrived in New Amsterdam on the ship, Gilded Bear, in May 1658."
Elizabeth "Betty" Shadervine married Henry Peters on Sept 17, 1786 in Sussex County, NJ by Squire Francis Price. They remained there and together had several children: James Henry Peters, Anthony Peters, William Peters, Lewis Peters, Catharine Yost, Elizabeth Slockbower, Sarah Ann Wright, and Mary Ann Peters who probably died young.
Elizabeth Chardavoyne Peters died Feb 11, 1844 and is buried along with her husband, Henry Peters, in Vaughn Cemetery.
