Dorrit Ball Cook of Kennett Square

Dorrit Ball Cook, 85, of Kennett Square, formerly of Media, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Linden Hall, Kennett Square.

She was the wife of Lee Carskaddon Cook, who passed away in 2008, and with whom she shared 55 years of marriage.

Born in Sacramento, Calif., she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Violet Smith Ball.

Mrs. Cook, a homemaker, was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Riddle Hospital, and the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, reading, beach glass hunting on the Chesapeake Bay, boating, and her Golden Retrievers. She was a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley.

Mrs. Cook is survived by one son, Steven D. Cook and his wife Karen of Kennett Square; two daughters, Kristina Rife and her husband Bob of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and Linda Cook and her fianc Joe Desiata of Coatesville; one brother, Donald Ball of southern California; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Emily, and Bryan Cook and Nicholas and Austin Rife; and a cherished friend, Joan Lonergan of Austin, Texas.

You are invited to visit with her family and friends from 11 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home, 250 West State Street, Kennett Square. Her memorial service will follow at 12 noon.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to the American Red Cross, 2221 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103; or to the SPCA of Chester County, 1212 Phoenixville Pike, West Chester, PA 19380.
