Deceased Name: Charles Harland Blankenbaker
Aug. 24, 1918-May 6, 2011 Charles Harland Blankenbaker, 92, a former resident of East North Street, Portland, died Friday at Persimmon Ridge, Portland. He was born in Muncie to Charles W. and Hazel (Williams) Blankenbaker, and married Wilma K. Rouch on Oct. 21, 1939. She survives. He graduated from Poling High School in 1936 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Belguim, where he was injured. He later received a Purple Heart. Blankenbaker was a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Portland, American Legion Post No. 211, Portland, and the Disabled American Veterans. Other survivors include a son, Joe Blankenbaker (wife: Linda), Statesboro, Ga.; a daughter, Bonnie Coffel, Portland; a sister, Mona Keen, rural Bryant; and three grandchildren. Services are Monday at 11 a.m. at Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home, Portland, with Pastor Chris McPherson officiating. Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Twin Hill Cemetery, Pennville, with American Legion Post No. 211 conducting military gravesite rites. Calling hours are Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
