It is thought that Harrison was raised by Stephen Adams and he apparently used the Adams surname in earlier records. Some examples are as follows:
1) Harrison was listed as Harrison "Adams" on his and Emily's 1850 Letcher County marriage record;
2) Harrison was enumerated as Harison Adams in household #31 of the 1850 Letcher County, KY, census (for some reason his new wife, Emily "Pridemore", was enumerated "next door" in household #30), and Stephen Adams was enumerated in household #29;
3) Harrison was enumerated as Harison Adams in household #37 of the 1860 Letcher County, KY, census (the surname Banks was crossed out with Adams written above it); and
4) Harrison was enumerated as Harison Adams in household #165 (Precinct #1) of the 1870 Letcher County, KY, census.
In the 1880 Letcher County, KY, census (Precinct #6, household #209/213), Harrison was enumerated as Harrison Banks, just 20 days before his death.
