Harrison (Adams) Banks was the son of Jonathan and Mary (Adams) Banks. He married Sarah Emaline Pridemore on March 8, 1850, in Letcher County, KY. They had at least ten children: John Wesley "Wes" Banks, Easter (Banks) Caudill, Nancy (Banks) Banks, Sarah (Banks) Caudill, Napoleon Bonaparte "Bony" Banks, Cornelia (Banks) Frazier, William "Will" Banks, Irvine Banks, James Banks and Martha Banks.

It is thought that Harrison was raised by Stephen Adams and he apparently used the Adams surname in earlier records. Some examples are as follows:

1) Harrison was listed as Harrison "Adams" on his and Emily's 1850 Letcher County marriage record;
2) Harrison was enumerated as Harison Adams in household #31 of the 1850 Letcher County, KY, census (for some reason his new wife, Emily "Pridemore", was enumerated "next door" in household #30), and Stephen Adams was enumerated in household #29;
3) Harrison was enumerated as Harison Adams in household #37 of the 1860 Letcher County, KY, census (the surname Banks was crossed out with Adams written above it); and
4) Harrison was enumerated as Harison Adams in household #165 (Precinct #1) of the 1870 Letcher County, KY, census.

In the 1880 Letcher County, KY, census (Precinct #6, household #209/213), Harrison was enumerated as Harrison Banks, just 20 days before his death.
