Highwayman. To Nevison is attributed the feat later wrongly attributed to Dick Turpin, the Ride to York. He robbed a man in Gads Hill,Kent, then to establish an alibi he rode on horse 200 miles to York, there playing a game of bowls with the Mayor in the morning. When arrested for this robbery, Nevison was released because no-one could believe that he could rob a man in Kent then breakfast in York with the Mayor, only a few hours later.Although he was reputed never to use violence, Nevison's luck ran out when he killed an officer who was trying to arrest him. He was hanged at York Castle, his body placed in an unmarked grave in the city's St Mary's church.
