George Walker Hume was born Feb 27, 1874 in the town of Moundville. He was the youngest of four sons and two daughters of the late Robert and Sarah Ann Hume. On Jan 16, 1901 he was united in marriage to Lois DeMotte of Westfield. Mr. Hume spent his entire life in the town of Moundville on a farm. For the past eleven years he has resided at Endeavor. During his life he served as town assessor for twenty seven years and school board director for twenty five years. He had been an active member of the Moundville M.E. Church, Masonic lodge, and Order of the Eastern Star. He died at 8:45 p.m. Feb 2 at Divine Saviour hospital after an illness of a few hours. An infant son preceded Mr. Hume in death as well as his entire family of brothers and sister. He is survived by his wife, Lois, daughter Vera; Son-in-law, Charles; four grandchildren, George, Frank, Elsie Mae and Judy Thornton. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb 5th at 2 p.m. in the Moundville M.E. church with the Rev. O. Akers, and Rev. L.L. Litchfield officiating. "Lead Kindly Light: and "Beyond the Sunset" were sung by Mrs. James Hollerup and Mrs. Glenn Powell accompanied by Mrs. Clayton Mitchell. The Masonic address was given by Mayor H.B. Stowers of Portage. Pallbearers were Merlin Jones, Leo Link, William Mitchell, Merval Shaw, Warren Ellis and Claire Bennett, Interment was in the Moundville Cemetery.

GEORGE W. HUME DIES AT WESTFIELD
George W. Hume, age 77, residing in Westfield and formerly of the town of Moundville died very suddenly Saturday evening at the Divine Savior Hospital and was taken to the Pflanz Funeral home. The remains are in state at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Thornton in the town of Moundville where friends may call until 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at which time they will be moved to the Moundville Methodist Church to lie in state until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be from the church at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Owen Akers will officiate and H.B. Stowers will give the Masonic address. The interment will be made in the family lot in the Moundville Cemetery. Survivors are his wife Lois; one daughter (Vera) Mrs. Charles Thornton of the town of Moundville; four grandchildren and a number of other near relatives and friends. Mr. Hume was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 292 and the Eastern Star No. 233 of Endeavor.
