Anthony J. Lazarewicz, 82, of Mt. Airy, MD, passed away January 3, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, in the presence of his loving children. Anthony is preceded in death by his devoted wife, Elizabeth P. Lazarewicz, and his infant son, Michael. He is survived by his children, Victoria Shaw, Mary Hershelman (Jeff Graybill), and Anthony Lazarewicz (Amy Lazarewicz); and his grandchildren, Taylor, Ethan, and Elizabeth; as well as many additional family members and friends. Born in Baltimore, MD on June 13, 1930, he was a graduate of Patterson Park High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, following which he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. A distinguished career spanned terms at both Westinghouse and Fairchild Industries and included work on vital defense systems such as the U.S. Navy F-14 Tomcat and the U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt. A two-time commander of the American Legion Post 191, he was active in the community and was instrumental in bringing American Legion baseball to Mt. Airy. He also built a successful small business around his interests in farming and forestry, the Woodville Forest Christmas Tree Farm. A Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 7 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 9201 Church St. in Libertytown, MD, with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made "In Memory of Anthony J. Lazarewicz" to the Catoctin Mountain District of National Capital Area Council, Boy Scouts of America (9190 Rockville Pike, Bethesda MD 20814 ph: 301-214-9118 or www.BoyScouts-NCAC.org/InMemoryOf). Arrangements are with Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody P.A. in Frederick.
