Thelma B. Hood, 86, of Mt. Airy, died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Walter "Buddy" K. Hood, Sr., who predeceased her on July 1, 2000.
Born December 21, 1926 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Marguerite Schlicker Herche.
Mrs. Hood worked as a manager clerk for the C & P Telephone Company for many years. She loved crafts, especially crocheting, quilting, ceramics and making beaded jewelry. She loved spending time with her family, and in her later years, she was an avid book reader. She was a breast cancer survivor.
Mrs. Hood was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Mt. Airy.
She is survived by her two sons, Walter K. Hood, Jr. and wife, Cathy, and Brian Hood, Sr., and wife, Leighann, all of Mt. Airy; six grandchildren, Dawn McFarland and husband, Rodney, of Winchester, Va.; C. Eric Hood and wife, Chelsea, of Essex; Jamie Unger and wife, Mindy, of Westminster; and Brian Hood, Jr., Jamison Hood, and Kinsey Hood, all of Mt. Airy; and three great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Q. McFarland, Chase M. Unger and Jacoby J. Unger.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, John R. Herche; and four sisters, Catherine Dells, Charlotte Miller, Dorothy Robosson, and Ruth O'Neill.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy. Funeral services will begin from the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 with the Rev. Steve Larsen of Calvary United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
