Herschel Lafe Farrar was born to Thomas P Farrar & Laura Bull Farrar. His siblings were: Robert, Blanche, Virgie, Jessie, and Dewey. He married Estella Belle Irby in Aug. 1920, they had five children: Elmer, Ozell, Melvin, Norman, and Julius. He moved to East St. Louis IL a few years after the death of his first wife Estella, returned to southeast MO in later years where he lived with his last wife Essie until her death. In his last years he lived with his son Norman and his wife Dollie and their children until March 1987, Papa Herschel was 89 yrs and 16 days old at time of his death.
