Services for Cecil Ray Beaird, 75, Gadsden, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Twelfth Street Baptist Church. Mr. Beaird will lie in state from noon until 1 p.m. at the church. Dr. Craig Carlisle and the Rev. Larry Fuhrman will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral Home and Cremation Services is directing. He will be interred into the mausoleum at Forrest Cemetery.
Mr. Beaird is survived by his wife, Joan; three sons, Cecil Ray Beaird Jr. (Terri), Lorton, Va., David Beaird, Boaz, and Larry Beaird, Albertville; one daughter, Susan Beaird (Rex), Southside; 16 grandchildren, Jason (Judi), Missy, Laura, Jamie, Emily, Nikiva, Kenneth, Keith, Nathan, Dakota, Meghan, MacKenzie, Will, Madison, Brandon and Elisha; three great-grandchildren, Harper, Trinity and Galudaya; one brother, Charles (Mary) Beaird, Steele; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews; and former daughter-in-law, Cheryl Shelton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hoyt and Oties Beaird; his sister, Frances Beaird Rice; and his great-granddaughter, Jericha.
Mr. Beaird served in the U.S. Navy aboard an aircraft carrier during the Korean War. He also earned his commercial pilot's license and would fly charter flights. He was retired from the city of Gadsden where he was a police sergeant in the detective division for 23 years. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, flying, and was a devoted member of the Twelfth Street Baptist Church. He was chosen by Gov. George Wallace to be one of his personal guards.
Pallbearers will be the deacons of the Twelfth Street Baptist Church
The family extends a warm "thank you" to Marshall County Hospice and Home Health, the nurses of Mid South, the medical staff of the Veteran's Hospital in Birmingham and Dr. Greeta Scariya.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to Twelfth Street Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
