Body of Vietnam Vet Arrives In City For Burial
The body of Spec. 4 William R. Hainley arrived in Altoona today for burial. Spec. Hainley, of 1012 6th Ave., Juniata, and formerly of 806 4th Ave., was killed in Vietnam Easter Sunday, March 29.
The 18-year-old radioman was serving with the First Air Cavalry Division near DaNang, South Vietnam, when the artillery firing position at which he was stationed was attacked. He had returned to duty the day before his death after spending a month in the hospital for treatment of a leg wound.
Spec. Hainley was born July, son of Donald and Frances (Bailey) Hainley. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. William Winter, his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hainley of Altoona; two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Cheryll Partner of Altoona, Mrs. Cindy Miller of Harrisburg and Spec. 4 Donald Hainley, stationed with the Army at Carlisle Barracks, and grandmothers, Mrs. Edna Gill of Duncansville, Mrs. Kathryn Bailey of Altoona and Mrs. Olive Winter of Juniata.
Friend will be received in the Axe Funeral Home after 7 p.m. tomorrow and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
