"World War I Veteran", United States Army. His name is on the Bronze Plaques as you enter the cemetery in "Honor" of those who served from the Portville area. Info. from Findagrave member, Cherie Officer and the Portville (NY) Star, Thursday, June 25, 1959 Page One. Dr. Hackett passed away at the St. Francis Hospital in Olean, NY(it is gone now, but was located on West State Street). He was the son of Henry N. and Mary Ellen (Gleason) Hackett. Dr. Hackett graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA in 1914 and interned at St. Vincent's Hospital in Erie, PA. He had practiced in Portville for 44 years. On July 4, 1913 he married America L. Archilla at Ceres, NY. During WW I he served as an officer in the Army Medical Corps. He was a charter member of the Portville American Legion Post, Mason's Lodge 579 and the Portville Fire Dept. He was also a past president of the Cattaraugus County Medical Society and a member of the American Medical Association. Dr. Hackett belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Portville. At the time of his death he was survived by his wife, America: One son, H.C. Hackett, MD of Portville, NY: Two daughters, Mrs. W.W. Booth of Arlington, VA and Mrs. Robert Bartley of Portville, NY: Five grandchildren and one brother, George N. Hackett of Friendship, NY. The funeral was held at the Guenther and Morton Funeral Home in Portville on June 25, 1959.

G. Clifford Hackett was born in Ceres, NY in 1890 and graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1914. Dr. Hackett married America Archilla of Puerto Rico in 1913 and began his practice in downtown Portville in 1915. He enlisted in the US Army in WW I and completed his military service in the Medical Corps at Fort Dix, NJ. He then restarted his Portville practice in 1919 in his newly purchased home on Temple Street. They had three children, Dr. Henry C. Hackett, Mrs. Robert Bartley and Mrs. Carmen A. Booth. Dr. George C. Hackett died in 1959.
