James Howard Cox, 90, of Bristol, TN, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

He was a son of the late Samuel D. Cox and Vista Barnett Cox.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene Opal Cox, and his second wife and love of his life, Mary Lynn Combs Cox; 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Born in Unicoi, Tennessee, he grew up in Elizabethton. He was a veteran having served in the US Army-Air Corps during WW II.

He was a retired Buyer for Univac. He loved jazz music and was a drummer in a jazz band in his younger years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bristol, TN.

James is survived by his daughters, Debbie Fleenor and husband Gregg of Bristol, TN, and Denise Bailey and husband Robert of Piney Flats, TN; son, Dean Combs of Blountville, TN; grandchildren, Jessica Fleenor of Bristol, TN and Stefanie Fleenor of Charlotte, NC, Andrew Bailey and Anthony Bailey both of Piney Flats, TN; special pet, Rocky; and very special friends, Carroll and Diania Bailey of Piney Flats.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 pm with Pastor Robbie Hilton officiating in the Funeral Home Chapel.

The committal and interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military Honors will be presented by the Bristol Virginia DAV Chapter #40.
