J. P. Begley, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Begley, aged 13 years, 2 months and 28 days, passed peacefully away December 14, 1897, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. O'Meara. Although suffering always from birth from a sad affliction, he bore it all patiently, aided by the loving care of his dear Aunt and Uncle O'Meara. His brilliant mind never deserted him, and to the very last he spoke lovingly to those around him, and after bidding a fond farewell to all, with fervent prayers upon his lips he yielded up his pure spirit to God, thus proving himself a true hero.
Johnny Begley, as he was familiarly called in life, was a general favorite with his playmates at school, and all vied with each other in offering deeds of kindness to him who was so grievously afflicted. If there is excellency in heaven this boy will certainly attain to it. In intellect he was a giant for one so young. The funeral was held Wednesday from St. Ann's Parish, and many were present to attest their sympathy and good will.
