MIFFLINBURG — Earl C. Kratzer, 76, of Furnace Road, passed away early Saturday morning, Oct. 4, 2014, at his home following a long with battle with cancer.
He was born April 24, 1938, in Kelly Township, Union County, a son of the late Merrill Luther and Edith Pauline (Knouse) Kratzer. On April 22, 1978, he married the former Helen J. Bickel who survives.
He attended school in Mifflinburg.
Early in life he had worked as a chicken catcher for Clark Poultry as well as farming. Earl was a very gifted mechanic and enjoyed attending sales and buying farm machinery to repair and resell.
He was a member of Dreisbach United Church of Christ, Lewisburg.
Earl particularly enjoyed repairing tractors, especially Farmall, Oliver, Ford, and Ferguson models. His pride and joy was his Farmall Super H. He was always available to help his farmer friends.
In addition to his wife of 36 years, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Robin Kratzer, of North Carolina; one brother, Merrill F. Kratzer, of Lewisburg, and his companion, Dottie Longacre, of Kreamer; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Kratzer, of Mifflinburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Kratzer; and one sister-in-law, Lena Kratzer.
Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Tim Reich officiating.
