Austin was the son of Raymond and Bertha Zimmerman Putman, and the widower of the former Norma Batten, who died in 1989. He was survived by children Austin Jr. and Judith Repp, seven grandkids, two great-grandkids and siblings Charles and R. Randolph Putman and Kathleen Krantz.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Ann Keller, who died just two months previous.
