News of the death of Mrs. Nancy C. Brown, a resident of this city for many years, was received Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Brown died at the home of her son, A. R. Brown, in Erwin, Tennessee, at 1:30 p.m. She was stricken with apoplexy Sunday afternoon and never regained consciousness.
Mrs. Brown was the widow of William L. Brown, a federal soldier who lost his life in the Sultana disaster, near Memphis in 1865. She was seventy-nine years old and is survived by two sons, Major William H. Brown, of Johnson City, and A. R. Brown, of Erwin. Major Brown is very well known in Knoxville. He resided here a number of years and was prominently identified with military affairs, serving for a number of years as Captain of old Company C, in the Coal Creek riot and as Major in the 3rd Tennessee Regiment in the Spanish-American War service. Mrs. Brown was a native of Sevier County and after marriage moved to a farm south of the river where she spent a large portion of her life.
The body will be brought to Knoxville this morning arriving at 11:40 o'clock and the interment will take place this afternoon in a cemetery on Brown's Mountain, near the residence of Mr. H. M. Brown. She was a life long Baptist.
